CCU Theatre's 'On the Verge' explores terra incognita

February 15, 2013

'The CCU Department of Theatre's production of Eric Overmyer's "On the Verge; or, The Geography of Yearning," a comedy about a trio of women explorers, begins Feb. 21 at the 79th Avenue Theatre at the Myrtle Beach Higher Education Center.

The play follows three Victorian women explorers (whose dialog is as sharp as the machetes they use in the wilderness) on their trek across Terra Incognita in 1888. Brave, willing and yearning to see it all, the women soon realize this is no ordinary journey. Adrift in time, they begin to absorb knowledge from the future. The heroines navigate a linguistic labyrinth through uncharted territory punctuated with 1950s pop culture references.

The cast is comprised of veteran CCU theatre students: Shannon Burke portrays the conservative Fanny; Emily Dixon plays the headstrong Mary; junior Alexa Doggett is Alexandra; and Dan Wilt rounds out the cast in the roles of Grover, Alphonse, the Gorge Troll, the Yeti, Gus, Madame Nhu, Mr. Coffee and Nicky Paradise. Adjunct Instructor John Woodson directs the production.
