The Dance Theatre of Harlem comes to Coastal Carolina University's Wheelwright Auditorium on Friday, March 1, at 7 p.m. The acclaimed dance company will perform selections from its 2013 repertoire, including "The Lark Ascending," "Black Swan Pas de Deux," "In the Mirror of Her Mind," "When Love" and "Contested Space."

Dance Theatre of Harlem is a dance institution with global recognition. The company is comprised of a performing ensemble, a leading arts education center and its Dancing Through Barriers initiative, a national and international education and community outreach program. Each component of Dance Theatre of Harlem is committed to enriching the lives of young people and adults around the world through the arts.

Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook, the Dance Theater of Harlem was conceived as school that would offer children (especially those in Harlem where Mitchell was from) the opportunity to learn about dance and the allied arts.
