Candlelight vigil location change

February 27, 3:30 p.m.

The location has changed for the candlelight vigil to be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, for Anthony Darnell Liddell, a sophomore from Bennettsville who was the victim of a shooting at University Place Tuesday night. The new location is Edwards Courtyard, located in the center of the Robin W. And Thomas W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts building. The event is open to the community.

The University's Office of Counseling Services is organizing the vigil, along with offering ongoing counseling services for students affected by the tragedy.

CCU President David DeCenzo will make remarks at the vigil, along with Debbie Conner, vice president for student affairs. An open microphone will be available for students to share memories, and the Coastal Inspirational Ambassadors gospel choir will perform. Preston McKever-Floyd, professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, will give a closing prayer, and refreshments will be provided.

The shooting occurred Tuesday at 7:22 p.m. at the campus residence hall off S.C. 544. The suspect fled in a vehicle and has not been located.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is handling the investigation.

The Coastal Carolina University community mourns the loss of sophomore student Anthony Darnell Liddell, who was killed in a shooting incident at University Place Tuesday evening.

CCU President David DeCenzo expressed his condolences, saying, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Anthony Liddell. Tragedies such as these anywhere in our society are senseless. Precious loss of life at such an early age affects us all. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and security of our students. We will continue to do all that we can with all the resources necessary to make sure that our students are safe and secure. We only pray that an event like this never happens on our campus or any college campus again."

CCU Counseling Services professionals and ministers are on hand Wednesday at CCU's Lackey Chapel to provide assistance to students. Counseling staff are also available at the Grand Strand Activity House, located at University Place, and at Eaglin and Ingle residence halls.

Coastal Carolina University has confirmed that Anthony Darnell Liddell, 19, a sophomore student from Bennettsville, died Tuesday as a result of a shooting incident at University Place residence hall.

CCU Department of Public Safety Police Chief David Roper has determined that currently there is no apparent threat to students, faculty or staff. Therefore, classes will be held on Wednesday as regularly scheduled.

CCU Counseling Services professionals and ministers will be on hand Wednesday at CCU's Lackey Chapel beginning at 8 a.m. to provide assistance to students. Counseling staff will also be available at the Grand Strand Activity House, located at University Place, and at Eaglin and Ingle residence halls. Counseling staff has also been assisting students at University Place since the incident was reported.

At 7:22 p.m. Tuesday, Horry County 911 Dispatch received a call reporting a shooting at the University Place residence hall at Coastal Carolina University. CCU Police and Conway City Police responded immediately. The victim was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. The suspect left campus in a vehicle and, at the time of this message, is still at large. CCU Alert messages were sent out to students, faculty and staff, and the website was updated to provide information about the shooting as it became available.

Residence Halls remain under lockdown for the remainder of the night. S.C. Law Enforcement Division is conducting the investigation, assisted by CCU Public Safety. Anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact CCU Dept. of Public Safety at 843-349-2177.

February 26,2013, 10:05 p.m.

At 7:22 p.m. today Coastal Carolina University Campus Police received a call reporting a shooting at the University Place residence hall at Coastal Carolina University.

The suspect left campus in a vehicle and is still at large. The victim has been transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.

Students in classrooms have been allowed to go home. Residence Halls are still under lockdown. S.C. Law Enforcement Division has taken over the investigation, assisted by CCU Public Safety. Anyone who has information regarding this incident please contact CCU Dept of Public Safety at 843-349-2177.

At 7:22 p.m. today Coastal Carolina University Campus Police received a call reporting a shooting at the University Place residence hall at Coastal Carolina University. CCU Campus Police and Conway Police responded immediately. The victim has been transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. The suspect left campus in a vehicle and is still at large. All students and University personnel are requested to stay indoors. Anyone who has information contact CCU Dept of Public Safety at 843-349-2177.

A shooting incident has occurred at University Place residence hall at CCU. The suspect is at large. All students and Unviersity personnel are requested to remain inside.
