Visiting ethicist David Killoren will host "Tea & Ethics: Animal Ethics" on Thursday, March 21, at 4:30 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium, located in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration, on the Coastal Carolina University campus. Free tea and snacks will be offered 30 minutes prior to the event in the Auditorium's Anteroom. The public is invited to attend with no ticket required.

Killoren will host a discussion about various ethical questions relating to animals. Animals can be divided into morally different categories, such as companion animals or livestock, but what are the reasons for this? Why do some find it acceptable to eat the meat of livestock, but not of a pet? These questions and more will be explored during the event.

Killoren is the Jackson Family Center Fellow. His current research focuses on skeptical challenges for moral realism; the possibility of moral perception; the prospects for first-order moral theories that accommodate moral dilemmas; the ethics of collectives; feasibility in political discourse; and animal ethics.

He earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where his primary teaching and research interests were in ethics. He is also the co-founder and managing editor of Philosophy TV, a video website devoted to philosophical thinking.
