CCU students bring ‘Hot L Baltimore’ to Edwards Theatre

April 3, 2013

Lanford Wilson's 1973 Off-Broadway play "Hot L Baltimore" comes to the Edwards Theatre at Coastal Carolina University on Thursday, April 11, through Saturday, April 20. There is no performance on Friday, April 12.

Formerly the swankiest hotel in town, The Hotel Baltimore is now home to those who reside on the fringes of society. The residents have just received eviction notices, and the building is on a crash course with a wrecking ball. "Hot L Baltimore" reveals the private affairs of this unconventional community as their lives are turned inside-out. An imaginative, touching study of lost souls trapped by society's inexorable decay, the play won a New York Drama Critics' Circle Award and an Obie Award in 1973.

The cast includes CCU students Connor Kendall, Anna Saunders, Shaleigh Phillips, Miranda Frederick, Jennifer Pagano, Nathan Phillips, Brantley Ivey, Tyler Keller, Nate Quetel, Jessica Bryant, Michael Golino, Charlie Tingen, Korinny Sanchez and Justin McBride.

Guy William Molnar, a professor of theatre at CCU, directs the play. Scenic design is by Kenneth Martin, an associate professor of theatre; costume designs are by Eric Hall, an associate professor of theatre; lighting is by Stephen Toney, resident lighting designer; sound design is by Jacob Singleton; and the production stage manager is Brian Marshall. Assistant stage managers are Krista Gierlach and Ashley "Reesie" Reece.

Performances are April 11 and 13 at 7:30 p.m., (no performance on April 12) and April 17 through 20 at 7:30 p.m. There are 3 p.m. shows on April 13 and April 20.

The Edwards Theatre is located in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. in Conway.
