Coastal Carolina University's Symphonic Band wraps up its spring concert season with "The Russian Connection," on Friday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The concert spotlights Russian and Russian-related compositions from the late 19th century to today. The public is invited with the purchase of a ticket.

The concert will feature the world premiere of Andrew Fowler's "Russian Escape." A native of Myrtle Beach, Fowler is a professor of music theory at CCU and the musical director of Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway.

Co-conducted by James Tully and Matthew Shrewsbury, the program will also include Dmitri Shostakovich's "Festive Overture" and "Galop," Vasilij Agapkin's "A Slavic Farewell," Vasily Kalinnikov's "Finale from Symphony No 1" and Daniel Bukvich's "Agincourt Hymn."

Tully is a CCU professor of music and conductor of the Symphonic Band and Coastal Winds. He was the founding director of the Coastal Carolina University Bands and served as the director of the CCU Marching Band from 2003 to 2011. Shrewsbury is the assistant director of bands at CCU and has performed with the Long Bay Symphony Orchestra and numerous university bands at Coastal Carolina University, Columbia College and the University of South Carolina.

General admission tickets are $9; CCU and HGTC students, faculty and staff are $3; alumni, senior citizens (ages 65 and over) and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) members are $7; teens (ages 11 to 17) are $3; and children (ages 10 and under) are free and must be accompanied by an adult.
