August 5, 2013

Approximately 300 students are eligible to participate in Coastal Carolina University's inaugural summer graduation ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m. at the HTC Center.

Holley Tankersley, associate professor of politics and chair of the Department of Politics & Geography at CCU, will deliver the commencement address. Her speech titled "Tomorrow is the Best day of Your Life" will focus on life after college.

"So many people tell students that college is the 'best time of your life'," she says. "I want them to know that cannot be true if they are to live successful and happy lives."

Tankersley joined the CCU faculty in 2006. She teaches courses in public policy and American political institutions, which includes the American presidency and Congress. Tankersley was named the CCU Professor of the Year for 2008-2009 and 2012-1013. She has also received numerous College of Humanities and Fine Arts Apple Awards for teaching and advising.

She earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Birmingham-Southern College, a master's degree of public policy from Georgetown University in 2002 and a Ph.D. in political science and public policy from the University of Georgia in 2006.
