The ethics of animal testing is the topic of discussion at Coastal Carolina University's next Philosopher's Corner on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 4:30 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Enhancing the power of the human brain is a burgeoning field of study according, to John Basl, associate professor of philosophy at Northeestern University. Basl will will discuss the need to understand the ethics of cognitive enhancement beyond the human realm by asking the question: Would it be wrong for us to dramatically alter the minds of animals?

Basl's area of specalization lies in applied ethics and the philosophy of biology. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Northeastern University and a master's degree and Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Philosopher's Corner is sponsored by CCU's Jackson Family Center for Ethics & Values. Each event in this series will feature a contemporary philosopher discussing current topics in philosophy.
