Zombies run for CCU

October 29, 2013

The antics of Halloween get an extra day as Coastal Carolina University presents the Running Dead 5k on Friday, Nov. 1, at 5:30 p.m. at the Hulk Trail on Frontage Road B-2 off of River Oaks Drive in Carolina Forest.

Set on the Day of the Dead in a zombie apocalyptic world, the race was planned by CCU students. Designed like a video game, the runners will wear a flag football belt with the flags representing their lives as they navigate a challenging woodland trail and try to survive invading zombies who attempt to snatch their flags before they make it to the finish line.

The first 100 participants to register will receive a T-shirt and a medal. The top three male and top three female finishers with remaining flags will be awarded prizes. There will also be prizes for the top three males and top three females who finish the race undead. An after-party will be held at Murphy's Law in Carolina Forest immediately following the race. Soft drinks and boneless wings will be provided.

The event is sponsored by CCU's Recreation and Sport Management Programming and Event Planning class, the Grand Strand Running Club and Horry County Parks and Recreation Development.
