CCU silent auction to feed the hungry

November 7, 2013

Coastal Carolina University will host Feed Hungry Hearts with the Arts, a silent auction to raise proceeds to help end area homelessness. Art donated by local artists, CCU faculty and students, as well as gift certificates for local businesses will be auctioned on Monday, Nov. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Kline Hospitality Suite, located on the third floor of Brooks Stadium. This public event will also include light hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment.

The auction will benefit New Directions of Horry County and CCU's Students Advocating Gender Equality (SAGE). SAGE is a CCU student organization dedicated to raising awareness for gender-related social inequalities within the community.

New Directions works to end homelessness in Horry County by operating local homeless and domestic violence shelters, while coordinating with area organizations to offer services to residents in the shelters. New Directions also reaches out to help anyone in the community at risk of being homeless or who has been homeless. Some of these services are financial management, job skills training, computer skills, resume writing, practice interviews and GED classes.

The event is sponsored by CCU's Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement and SAGE. The Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement seeks to educate students through volunteer opportunities, service learning and activism. It enables students to understand the shared strengths and challenges of the Grand Strand community by engaging in collaborative action on campus and creating meaningful community partnerships.
