Matt Hogue, the "Voice of the Chanticleers" at Coastal Carolina University for 17 years, has been named a finalist for the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA) Sportscaster of the Year for the state of South Carolina.

NSSA members will vote on the ballot during the month of December, with the winners being announced during the second week of January. The winners will receive their awards during the 55th Annual NSSA Awards Weekend, June 7-9, in Salisbury, N.C.

Hogue is the radio play-by-play announcer on the Chanticleer Sports Network, which provides live game broadcasts, features and weekly programs about CCU athletics.

A 23-year broadcast veteran, Hogue began his career broadcasting Lady Gamecock women's basketball as a University of South Carolina student in 1990. His resume includes minor league baseball and appearances on regional TV including Fox Sports Net, SportSouth and ESPN properties. He also serves as the broadcast voice of the Big South Conference's basketball TV package. In addition to Hogue's broadcast duties, he serves as the University's associate vice president for marketing.

The other six Palmetto State finalists are Andy Demetra (Gamecock/IMG Sports Network), Allen Smothers (Coastline Sports Media), Phil Kornblut (South Carolina News Network), Pete Yanity (Clemson/IMG Sports Network), Kevin McCrarey (South Carolina News Network) and Jeff McCarragher (Charleston Sports Network).

The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association & Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization, dedicated to honoring, preserving and celebrating the legacy of sportscasters and sportswriters in the United States. NSSA also seeks to develop educational opportunities for those who are interested in pursuing a career in sports media, through networking, mentoring and scholarship programs.
