CCU to host discussion on humanism

  Michael Werner
“Ethical Dilemmas and the Life Stance of Humanism” is the topic of the next Ethics and Religion forum at Coastal Carolina University on Monday, Feb. 3, at 4:30 p.m. in Lackey Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Michael Werner, former president of the American Humanist Association, will lead the discussion on issues pertaining to the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and humanism. Werner will address questions such as: What does it mean to be a humanist today? What is the future of the UUA?

Much of Werner’s life has revolved around progressive activism and working in many humanist/atheist/free-thought organizations. He is a former president of the American Humanist Association, on the board of the Unitarian Universalist Humanist Association HUUmanists, serves on the North American Committee for Humanism, and an adjunct faculty member of the Humanist Institute. He has taught at many major universities and is a founder of SMART Recovery, a self-management and recovery training program for those with addictions.

Lackey Chapel is located at the corner of University Boulevard and University Drive on the CCU campus.
