CCU to present ‘Into the Woods’

"Into the Woods," a Tony award-winning musical based on Brothers Grimm fairytales, will be presented by Coastal Carolina University's Department of Theatre from Thursday, Feb. 6, through Saturday, Feb. 15, in Wheelwright Auditorium.

With music and lyrics by Steven Sondheim, it tells the story of a baker, played dually by Jackson Bartelme and Eric Waters, and his wife, played by Jennifer Pagano, who want to start a family but learn they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse. In their journey to break the curse, they get some help from some familiar friends. Characters from "Little Red Riding Hood," "Cinderella," "Rapunzel" and "Jack and the Beanstalk" all make appearances in this fractured fairy tale.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, through Saturday, Feb. 8, Wednesday, Feb. 12, and through Friday, Feb, 14. Two shows will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 3 and 7:30 p.m.

The play is directed by Monica Bell, associate professor of theatre at CCU, who has worked extensively in professional theatre for the last 25 years.

Other members of the cast are CCU students: Hannah Zilber, Charlie Tingen, Alexa Dogget, Brianne Campbell, Sara Cataldo, Meagan Sharp, Elliot Smith, Jackie Irving, Keelin Sanz, Anna Sheridan, Shelby Dangerfield, Taylor Wright, Michael Lawrence, Brian Bruno, Kailey Mixer and Ashlyn Inman. Crew members include: Katrina Jones, Corey Ryan, Cody Taylor and Juliann Clark. Faculty members John Woodson, the Narrator, and Robin Russell, the giant, are also featured.

Assistant stage managers are Matthew Holcombe and Rachael White, and the wardrobe supervisor is Maria Nieto.

General admission tickets are $15; CCU/HGTC students and children (12 and under) are $5; and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff, alumni, OLLI members, senior citizens and teens are $10.

Wheelwright Auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle in Conway.
