CCU to present ‘The Vagina Monologues’

Coastal Carolina University will present "The Vagina Monologues" on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts Recital Hall as a part of CCU's "Wellness Week."

Eve Ensler's award-winning play, based on interviews with more than 300 women, celebrates women's strength by sharing their stories and encouraging them to reclaim their bodies and their desires.

Robin Edwards-Russell, associate professor of theatre and host of CCU's TV program "Coastal Today," will act in and direct the play. Edwards-Russell has been a faculty member at CCU since 2000 and earned a bachelor's degree from CCU and an M.F.A. in acting from the University of South Carolina. The cast is a combination of students, staff and faculty. CCU student cast members include: Erika Moreno, Jillian Ditch, Hathaikane K Bouphasavanh, Emily Munn, Tiffany Anderson, Nicole Tedesco, Na'Dae Beaty, Mikael Huffman and Ashley Woods.

CCU staff and faculty cast members are: Holley Tankersley, Stephanie Freeman, Raquel Stuart, Shawna Roessler, Debbie Perkins and Angie Fitzpatrick.

Tickets are $5 and are available at the Wheelwright box office, ticketreturn.com and at the door. All proceeds will benefit Rape Crisis Center of Horry and Georgetown counties. The University's Women's and Gender Studies program and Students Advocating Gender Equality are both sponsoring the event.

The Recital Hall is in room 152 of the Edwards College at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. in Conway.
