CCU Director of Athletics Yurachek resigns, accepts post at University of Houston

February 20, 2014

Coastal Carolina University Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek announced his resignation today to accept a position at the University of Houston as Associate Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Yurachek will remain at Coastal Carolina through the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, held at The HTC Center on Coastal's campus from Mar. 4-9, with his last day set for March 15. The University will begin a national search immediately to fill the Director of Athletics position.

"I am grateful for the opportunity that Dr. [David] DeCenzo gave me to lead the Department of Athletics at Coastal Carolina University," Yurachek said. "I have been blessed to work alongside so many wonderful people and on behalf of so many outstanding student-athletes during my tenure. Our department's accomplishments, as a team, have been remarkable, and I leave Coastal Carolina with a great sense of pride in knowing this athletics program is heading in the right direction and is equipped for continued success.

"My wife Jennifer and I, as well as our family, are so thankful for how we have been embraced by this community, and we will surely miss our friends and colleagues as we embark on a new chapter in our lives."

Yurachek began his tenure at Coastal Carolina in January 2010. In his four years to date, the Chanticleers have won a total of 29 Big South Championships (both regular season and tournament championships), made 30 NCAA appearances and finished a department-best 79th in the 2012-13 Learfield Director's Cup. While succeeding on the playing fields, Coastal Carolina's student-athletes have seen their cumulative grade point average rise from 2.974 to 3.108.
