Aunt Pearlie Sue and the Gullah Kinfolk will perform their new show, "Wax Museum," in Coastal Carolina University's Wheelwright Auditorium on Friday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m.

A nationally acclaimed storytelling troupe based in Beaufort, S.C., Aunt Pearlie Sue and the Gullah Kinfolk present a new tale about wax statues that come to life. The characters trace Gullah culture throughout history -- from West African slaves on the Sea Islands to the leaders of the Civil Rights movement to important leaders in today's world.

The 20-member troupe, all related, was formed by Anita Singleton-Prather, best known for her beloved character, Aunt Pearlie Sue. Singleton-Prather wrote this original production to demonstrate how central the Gullah culture is to historical events across continents. She celebrates the hope and spirituality of a dynamic people. Aunt Pearlie Sue and the Gullah Kinfolk have entertained audiences across North America for more than 10 years. They have released two CDs of songs and stories from the Sea Islands.

Tickets for the event are $10 for general admission. Teens, CCU and HGTC alumni, faculty and staff tickets are $5. OLLI members and senior citizens' tickets are also $5, and children's tickets are free. Seating is reserved.
