Pianist Jerry Wong to perform at CCU

Pianist Jerry Wong will be performing selections from his highly acclaimed debut CD in Coastal Carolina University’s Edwards Recital Hall on Sunday, April 6, at 4 p.m. The event is open to the public, but a ticket is required.

Wong’s debut CD, of Prokofiev piano pieces, on the MSR Classics label has received international praise. The noted critic Martin Bernheimer described Wong as “eloquent and elegant…(with) passion and introspection…sensitivity and a finely honed sense of style.”

Wong has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. He has played in such prestigious settings as the National Concert Hall of Taipei, National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., Opera City Hall in Tokyo, PianoForte in Chicago, Severance Hall in Cleveland, Shriver Hall in Baltimore and Weill Recital Hall in New York City. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Prix-Ville de Fontainebleau in France, the IBLA Grand Prize in Italy and the Akron Area Arts Alliance “Outstanding Artist in Music.”

Wong is an associate professor of music at Kent State University. He graduated from Indiana University, Peabody Conservatory and Manhattan School of Music, where he completed the Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

The Edwards College Recital Hall is in room 152 at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. in Conway. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $3 for CCU/HGTC Students/Faculty/Staff and children are free.

For tickets, contact the Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 843-349-2787 (ARTS).
