OLLI offers spring classes at Georgetown center
The new facility will be utilized primarily by researchers from CCU's Department of Marine Science, who will share the classroom with OLLI for limited programs and courses. The following classes all meet on Monday starting April 21.
Technical Skills for the 21st Century for Seniors is being offered from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for four weeks, ending May 19 and taught by John Kenny. Cost is $40. A hands-on interactive course of what skills, hardware and software you need to be a productive citizen in today's society. It's best to own and bring a tablet, Kindle and/or smart phone, but not required. Kenny has spent the last 40 years as a hands-on strategist and technologist working with companies, governments and educators to help them embrace technology. For 12 years, he and his partner ran a coalition called the Partnership for 21st Century Skills.
Basic Digital Photography is on Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m., ending May 12, with instruction by Paige Sawyer, at a cost of $35. Learn camera functions, exposure, composition and lighting, combined with ingredients for making good photographs. Bring your camera to class. Paige Sawyer opened his photography business in Georgetown in 1974 and specializes in portraits of children, families and brides. Winner of numerous state and national awards, he is a past president of the South Carolina Professional Photographers Association.
The Harborwalk Talk Series called "Local Treasures" runs for six weeks starting April 21, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., ending May 26 and featuring the following topics. Cost is $30.

April 28 -- "Overview of the Winyah River Foundation and the Role of Winyah Bay" by Paula Reidhaar, Waccamaw Riverkeeper May 5 -- "Sharks in Winyah Bay and Local Waters" by Dan Abel, CCU marine science professor
May 12 -- "Swamp Fox" by Walter Hill, executive director, Horry County Museum
May 19 -- "Armchair to Sidewalk Tour of Georgetown" by Jill Santopietro, executive director, Georgetown County Museum, and Paige Sawyer, photographer
June 2 -- "The Last 100 Years -- 1900-1999" by Lee Brockington, senior interpreter, Hobcaw Barony
