CCU’s POP 101 to perform

April 14, 2014

POP 101, Coastal Carolina University's acclaimed pop and rock music performing group, will stage its spring performance, "The Greatest Band You Never Heard Of -- Songs of the Wrecking Crew," on Thursday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission is $5.

The Wrecking Crew was a group of professional studio musicians from the late 1950s through the early 1970s in Los Angeles. Together they provided the backup music for thousands of hit records and many famous artists of the 1960s. POP 101 will showcase some of this group's biggest hits, covering Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner and more.

POP 101 has performed at CCU for more than a decade. This performance is under the direction of CCU instructor of music Dan O'Reilly, a saxophone player with an extensive performing background, including work with the Four Tops, the Temptations and Lou Rawls. He has also opened for nationally recognized artists B.B. King and the Doobie Brothers. O' Reilly holds a B.F.A. and an M.A. in composition from Long Island University.

Wheelwright Auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle in Conway. Tickets are $3 for CCU/HGTC faculty/staff/students, and free for children who are accompanied by an adult.

For tickets, contact the Wheelwright Box Office, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 843-349-2787 (ARTS).
