Go barefoot for ‘One Day Without Shoes’ at CCU

April 28, 2014

Take your shoes off for a good cause during Coastal Carolina University's "One Day Without Shoes," hosted by the TOMS Campus Club, Tuesday, April 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Prince Lawn. The event is free, and the public is invited to join the fun. There will be activities and giveaways.

There is still time to take the pledge and join the group for CCU. Anyone can sign up at tomscommunity.com/OneDayWithoutShoes until a few days before the event. The more pledges that CCU gets, the greater the chances are of getting prizes and giveaways for the University and participants. Last year, CCU was the top university for pledges.

The lawn will be a "barefoot zone" to commemorate the mission of TOMS Shoes. Blake Mycoskie, founder of the enterprise, created his company with a philanthropic vision: for every pair of shoes ordered, TOMS gives a pair to a child without shoes. Attendees are invited to take off their shoes to feel for a moment what it's like for those without the luxury of proper footwear.

There are some places in the world where going barefoot is widely accepted. But when children are affected by disease and illness, or are unable to attend school due to inadequate footwear, it is not about a cultural preference, but about the need for protection. "One Day Without Shoes" is about raising awareness for children's global health and education issues.
