'Preoccupied' exhibition opens at CCU's Bryan Gallery

May 6, 2014

Artist Michael Dickins will display his "Preoccupied" exhibition at Coastal Carolina University from Monday, May 19, through Saturday, June 28. This event is free and open to the public.

"Preoccupied" refocuses attention on ongoing conflicts and uprisings around the world through a series of interactive videos and drawings. Dickins critiques how American mass media fails to cover ongoing civil strife in Greece, Libya, Syria, Egypt, Bahrain and New York.

Dickins is an interdisciplinary artist whose work is created with a variety of media including photography, printmaking, drawing, installation, sound and video. He balances both digital and material processes, allowing him to create pieces that are both expressive and engaging. Dickins earned a B.F.A. in photography from Georgia Southern University and an M.F.A. in interdisciplinary arts from Goddard College.

He is manager of USC Upstate's Performing Arts Center Box Office and its Curtis R. Harley Art Gallery.

The Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery is in room 129 of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at 133 Chanticleer Drive E. on CCU's campus. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
