CCU Convocation honors students and faculty
Aaron Smith, a double major in math and computer science of Myrtle Beach, received the Distinguished Student Award that recognizes a student with superior accomplishments in both academics and campus service. Smith will be presented the President's Award at Saturday's commencement ceremony for achieving a cumulative 4.0 grade point average. He will pursue a Ph.D. in computer science at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Denise Williams, a lecturer in mathematics and statistics, was voted 2013-2014 Distinguished Teacher of the Year, an honor bestowed by students on a fair, caring and dynamic faculty member who is always available to help students learn. She joined the CCU faculty in 2009 and earned both undergraduate and master's degrees in mathematics education from the University of North Carolina Pembroke. She has been described by her students as not accepting failure and putting in extra work to help students succeed.
The 2013-2014 Distinguished Adviser of the Year went to Denise Davis, academic adviser in the Spadoni College of Education, who joined the CCU Office of Public Safety in 2006 while working on her master's degree.
