CCU’s Summer Arts Academy shows start this week

June 11, 2014

Final performances for the 2014 Summer Arts Academy at Coastal Carolina University begin at 1 p.m. Friday, June 13, with the Choral, Orchestra and Band Concert at the Myrtle Beach High School Auditorium at 3302 Robert M. Grissom Parkway. The concert is free and open to the public, as are the art exhibit and performing arts show.

The concert wraps up CCU's summer Music Arts Academy, co-directed by CCU music professor Tonya Propst and pianist Sarah Abushakra.

The Visual Art program will present a final art performance and show on Friday, June 27, starting with the popular annual Duct Tape Fashion Show at 10 a.m. in the courtyard of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The fashion show will be followed by an exhibition of the students' art work in the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery in the Edwards College.

The Performing Arts program will host its final performance on Friday, June 27, at 4 p.m. at Wheelwright Auditorium.

The Arts Academy is held each summer for middle and high school students who wish to participate in an intensive study of music, visual arts or performing arts.

Participants in the sessions had the opportunity to develop advanced skills in visual communication, portfolio development and manipulation of two and three-dimensional media. Visual Arts courses offered experiences with two-dimensional and three-dimensional media as well as graphic design. Students also engaged in collaborative projects and art inspired games.
