CCU Tea & Ethics talk will address location privacy

September 10, 2014

"Smartphone and Location Privacy" will be the topic of a Tea & Ethics discussion at Coastal Carolina University on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 3:30 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Assistant professor of politics and geography Susan Bergeron, Ph.D., will present "Smartphone and Location Privacy: Do We Know Too Much About the Lives of Others?" The focus will be on modern day technologies and their ethical implications. Smart phones have an ability to track location, and Bergeron will relate this to corporation exploitation. She will also address how individuals use location technology to track others.

Bergeron earned her doctorate and master's degree in geography from West Virginia University, a master's degree in history from Syracuse University, and a bachelor's degree in history from Duke University.

The Tea & Ethics series is sponsored by the University's Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values. The purpose of the center is to cultivate and promote community awareness about the importance of personal and professional integrity.

The event is free and open to the public. The Edwards Recital Hall is located in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. in Conway.
