CCU observes Banned Books Week

September 17, 2014

Coastal Carolina University is going virtual for Banned Books Week with planned events from Sept. 21 to 27 in observance of the national event honoring the freedom to read and exchange information through text. All events are free and open to the public.

A Virtual Read-Out will kick off the week on Monday, Sept. 22. This all-day event at Bryan Information Commons will feature a video from various people reading passages from banned books.

On Wednesday, Sept. 24, a Banned Books Tweet-Out will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bryan Information Commons. Visitors can have their photo taken with a banned book to post on social media.

All week long, CCU students will have the opportunity to enter the Banned Books Week contest, which calls for students to identify banned books based on passages displayed in glass jars. The prize includes a tote bag, coffee mug and a collection of banned books.

Kimbel Library and Bryan Information Commons are located on 376 University Blvd. in Conway.
