CCU to host 'Don't Text & Drive' event

October 9, 2014

An AT&T Driving Simulator will be set up on Prince Lawn Monday, Oct. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the "It Can Wait" public education campaign. A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m.

SC. Sen. Luke Rankin and CCU President David A. DeCenzo will highlight the dangers of texting while driving as AT&T brings its driving simulator to the heart of the Coastal Carolina University student campus.

AT&T sponsors the "It Can Wait®" public education campaign, now supported by more than 2,500 organizations nationally, to convey a simple, powerful message: No text is worth dying for.

Rankin will address the dangers of texting while driving, which is prohibited under South Carolina law, while President DeCenzo will announce that CCU is joining the movement as an official "It Can Wait" advocate.

Each year, more than 100,000 automobile crashes which cause life-changing injuries or deaths involve drivers who were texting, according to the National Safety Council.
