Scholars present research on history of health & medicine

Two visiting historians of pre-modern medicine and two CCU faculty members will present their work at an afternoon symposium, "Current Research in the History of Health & Medicine," Tuesday, Oct. 14 beginning at 3:15 p.m. in Wall 222.

The event is sponsored by CCU's Lawrence B. and Jane P. Clark Fund in History. Light refreshments will be served.

The speakers:

3:20 p.m. -- Luke Demaitre of the University of Virginia's Center for Biomedical Ethics and the Humanities will present "The medieval response to leprosy: History in a broader perspective, from Byzantium to Nigeria"

3:50 p.m. -- Michael McVaugh, Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, will present "Reconstructing the medieval translation(s) of an Arabic medical text into Latin & Hebrew."

4:20 p.m. -- Susan Bergeron of the Department of Politics and Geography at Coastal Carolina University will present "Geographic Information Systems and the History of Medicine"

4:50 p.m. -- Fredanna M'Cormack of the Department of Health Sciences at Coastal Carolina University will present "The Ebola Crisis and Public Health in Sierra Leone"
