CCU’s recreation students host Running Dead race

October 21, 2014

The second annual Running Dead 5k race will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, at 4:30 p.m. at the Hulk Trail on Frontage Road B-2 in Myrtle Beach. Proceeds from the race will go to Coastal Carolina University's Recreation and Sport Management Club.

Coastal Carolina University Recreation and Sport Management students plan the 5k race as a fun and challenging "run for one's life" that takes place during the "zombie apocalypse." Runners will run through Hulk Trail, trying to avoid "zombies" in hopes of making it to the finish line without getting afflicted (having their flag football belts pulled by the zombies).

In addition to CCU's Recreation and Sport Management Programming and Event Planning class, the event is also sponsored by the Horry County Parks and Recreation Department and the Grand Strand Running Club.

To get to Hulk Trail, turn onto Carolina Forest Boulevard off U.S. 501. At the end of Carolina Forest Boulevard, turn right onto River Oaks Drive. Go 1/8 of a mile under the overpass and make an immediate left onto Frontage Road B-2. Drive down this road for about two miles, and Hulk Trail is on the right side of the road (right before you go under another overpass).

Participants will receive a T-shirt, and the first 50 participants registered will receive a medal. Awards will be given to both "Living" and "Afflicted" runners. An after-party will be held at Longbeard's Bar & Grill at 5040 Carolina Forest Boulevard.
