CCU Percussion Ensemble presents ‘Eclectic Expressions’

Coastal Carolina University's Percussion Ensemble will present its "Eclectic Expressions" concert on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public but ticketed.

The concert will feature several challenging chamber music selections as well as exciting pieces written for a large percussion orchestra. Styles will range from classical to pop. The ensemble will play selections such as "Fractalia" by Owen Clayton Condon, "Breakdown" by Bradley Slater, "Home by Sundown" by Ralph Hicks, "Pyroclastic Steam" by Dave Hall and more.

The ensemble is comprised of both music and non-music majors, and admittance is by audition only.

The student musicians include Tim Forline, Johnny Richeson, DeAndrae Preston, Justin Brooks, Cailin Aucoin, Kyle Brewster, Kyle Hutton, Nathan Culp, Wade McMillan, Arthur Sparks, Gabby Brown, Micah Ray, Jacob Abarbanell and Reginald Frederick. The group is led by CCU's director of percussion studies Jesse Willis.

Willis has performed all over the country including several music conventions such as The National Kodaly Convention, Oklahoma PAS Day of Percussion, the Texas Music Educators Association and more. He earned a master's degee in music from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Tickets may be picked up at the Wheelwright Box Office from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. CCU Wheelwright Auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle in Conway. For ticket information, contact 843-349-2787.
