Two concerts highlight annual band festival at CCU

The Eighth Annual Coastal Honor Band and Scholarship Festival will feature two public concerts in Wheelwright Auditorium on the Coastal Carolina University campus during the weekend of Dec. 5 and 6.

A Faculty Recital, showcasing the talents of several members of CCU's Department of Music, is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5. The program will include chamber music as well as a performance by the CCU Faculty Jazz Band. Faculty musicians include Marc Chesanow (bass), Chris Connolly (trombone), Josh Frans (percussion), Bill Hamilton (piano), Dan O'Reilly (saxophones), Kate Tucker (clarinet), Matt White (trumpet) and Jesse Willis (drums), as well as guest artist Liam Teague on the steel pan.

The Coastal Honor Band Concert, set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, features more than 100 student musicians from grades 8 through 12 who were selected to participate in the annual band workshop. The band will be led by the internationally respected conductors Quincy Hilliard of the University of Louisiana and Jeff Ball, founder of the Brooklyn Wind Symphony. Scholarship recipients will also be announced at the concert.

The general admission for each event is $15; $5 for CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College students; $10 for CCU and HGTC faculty/staff, alumni, OLLI members, teens (11-17), and senior citizens; and $5 for children ages 1-10.
