CCU presents Free Week for noncredit courses

December 15, 2014

Free Week is your opportunity to explore the courses and clubs planned for the winter term of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Coastal Carolina University's premier noncredit program for enrichment opportunities.

Each of the University's four outreach centers will host a day filled with presentations and demonstrations: the Myrtle Beach Education Center, 900 79th Ave. N, on Tuesday, Jan. 6; the Litchfield Education Center, 14427 Ocean Highway, Thursday, Jan. 8; the Georgetown Education Center, 909 Front St., Tuesday, Jan. 13; and the Coastal Science Center, 301 Allied Drive, Conway, Thursday, Jan. 15.

A Volunteer Fair, hosted by the Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation in the atrium of Litchfield Exchange and within walking distance of the Litchfield Education Center, will also be taking place on Thursday, Jan. 8. Scores of Georgetown County nonprofits have been invited to participate and will be displaying their programs' missions, accomplishments and volunteer needs. OLLI Free Week attendees, as well as any interested community members, are welcome to visit the fair and find their perfect service match. Refreshments will be served throughout the day.

During Free Week, prospective students can sample the lifelong learning program for free, exploring more than 350 noncredit classes, workshops, special interest clubs and travel opportunities offered between Jan. 20 and the end of March. Topics include art and photography, computer technology, foreign languages, history and government, literature and writing, music, theater and film, personal growth and skill development, philosophy and religion, science and nature, and Lowcountry history, culture and nature excursions. The complete course schedule is available at the outreach centers, local libraries and visitor centers, and online at Coastal.edu/olli.

The OLLI membership fee ($20) includes discounts and special programs at area museums (Brookgreen Gardens, Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum, Georgetown County Museum, Hobcaw Barony and Horry County Museum), musical and theatrical companies (Long Bay Symphony, Atlantic Stage, Murrells Inlet Community Theatre and Theatre of the Republic), and health and wellness centers (Fit4Everyone, Fitness Edge, HealthPoint and YMCA).
