CCU series to discuss ‘Race in the Classroom’

January 12, 2015

"Race in the Classroom" is the topic for discussion on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 4 p.m. in Bryan Information Commons at Coastal Carolina University. The public is invited to this free event.

The discussion will provide an opportunity for faculty members, students and college staff members to reflect on what role -- if any -- race plays in today's college classroom.

Sponsored by the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values, the session will explore how students and faculty members at CCU experience and handle questions about race in their day-to-day classroom interactions. Questions that will be covered include: Is today's classroom a post racial realm in which students are treated equally no matter what they look like? Do the educational opportunities students receive depend sometimes on the color of their skin? Do students and faculty members feel comfortable sharing their experiences of race in the classroom?

Kimbel Library and the Bryan Information Commons are located at 376 University Blvd., Conway.
