Renowned pianist Stephen Beus to perform at CCU

Notable pianist Stephen Beus will perform at the Edwards Recital Hall at Coastal Carolina University on Monday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $15 for this Department of Music Piano Concert Series program.

Beus has performed all over the country and the world and has won several international piano competitions including first prize in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and first place in the Vendome Prize International Competition (Lisbon). He was also awarded the Max I. Allen Fellowship of the American Pianists Association (Indianapolis).

As a result of winning the Juilliard School Concerto Competition, Beus made his Carnegie Hall debut with the Juilliard Orchestra, playing Prokofiev Concerto No. 3. He has also performed as guest soloist with the Gulbenkian Symphony (Lisbon), Oxford Philomusica, the Tivoli Symphony (Copenhagen) and other orchestras.

He began lessons at age 5 and made his orchestral debut four years later. He earned degrees from Whitman College, the Juilliard School and Stony Brook University, where his teachers have included Leonard Richter, Robert McDonald, Gilbert Kalish and Christina Dahl. He has recorded on the Endeavor Classics and Harmonia Mundi labels. Beus is a Steinway Artist and teaches at the University of Oklahoma.

General admission is $15. Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teens, and CCU and HGTC faculty and staff are $10. CCU and HGTC students are $5.

The Edwards Recital Hall is located in Room 152 of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. in Conway.
