Hogue named Coastal Carolina University athletic director

February 27, 2015

Matt Hogue has been named to the position of Director of Athletics at Coastal Carolina University, according to an announcement by CCU President David A. DeCenzo. Hogue has served as interim athletic director since March 2014.

Hogue joined the CCU staff in 1997 and has served in several different roles in the Department of Athletics and in the Office of University Communication, where he led CCU's marketing and trademark licensing efforts for five years. Hogue was long known for his role as the "Voice of the Chanticleers" on the Chanticleer Sports Network, providing live game broadcasts, features and weekly programs about CCU athletics.

During the past year under his interim leadership, Hogue has overseen the completion of major athletic construction projects including the new Springs Brooks Baseball Stadium, tennis center and ongoing "Teal Turf" football field project. In addition, his department produced a record in average football attendance and has enjoyed one of Chanticleer athletics' most successful years thus far, ranking 34th in the fall edition of the Learfield Directors' Cup rankings.

"I want to thank Dr. DeCenzo for his support and confidence in my transition to the full-time role," said Hogue. "I appreciate his giving me this opportunity and look forward to growing the tradition of athletic excellence that our student-athletes and coaches have provided this great University. Coastal is more than just where I work. It's been my professional home for 18 years and has provided me so many enriching life moments. I share the excitement of this appointment with so many folks who have been tremendous colleagues and friends through almost two decades."

"With his long experience, proven leadership ability, and comprehensive grasp of all facets of Chanticleer Athletics, Matt Hogue is clearly the right person for this important position," said DeCenzo. "Matt is sincerely dedicated to the success of our student-athletes, and I am confident that CCU athletics will achieve an even higher level of distinction as a result of his leadership."

Hogue began his career in radio with WVOC and WLXC in Columbia. During that time, he hosted the USC Tailgate Show and called play-by-play for the 1993 NCAA Soccer Championship game. He then went on to write for the High School Sports Report prior to coming to Coastal Carolina University.

Hogue is a 1993 graduate of the University of South Carolina and earned an MBA from Winthrop University.
