Pianist Angela Cheng to perform at CCU

March 4, 2015

Noted Canadian pianist Angela Cheng will perform on Saturday, March 15, at 4 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University. General admission is $15.

Cheng will be performing sonatas by Mozart, Schubert and Prokofiev, as well as the "Fantasy, Op. 15" by Robert Schumann. Consistently praised for her brilliant technique, tonal beauty and superb musicianship, Cheng is one of her country's national treasures. She made her highly acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut with the Edmonton Symphony and has been gold medalist of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition.

Cheng appears regularly on recital series throughout the United States and Canada and has collaborated with numerous chamber ensembles including the Takács, Colorado and Vogler quartets. Her festival appearances include Chautauqua, Banff, Colorado, Houston, Vancouver, the Festival International de Lanaudière in Quebec and the Cartegena International Music Festival in Colombia.

This is the third year CCU's Department of Music is sponsoring Spring Piano Series with guest artists ranging from South Carolinian artists to internationally active performers and teachers. Many of the guest artists also present master classes for CCU music students with the opportunity for select pre-college students to also participate.

The Recital Hall is in room 152 of the Edwards Building, located at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. on the Conway campus. Parking is available behind the building or adjacent at Brittain Hall. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, alumni and CCU faculty/staff and $5 for CCU students.
