Flutist Amy Tully and pianist Philip Powell to perform

Coastal Carolina University faculty flutist Amy Hardison Tully and pianist Philip Powell will perform "Chamber Music for Flute and Bassoon," on Tuesday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Edwards Recital Hall. General admission is $5.

Tully will be accompanied by Powell and joined by guest bassoonist and composer Thomas Dempster. Dempster is the assistant professor of music at South Carolina State University. Tully and her guests will be playing music by J.S. Bach, Franz Schubert and original compositions for flute and bassoon by Dempster.

Tully is associate professor of music at CCU, teaches flute and conducts the flute choir. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina - Wilmington, a master's degree from Northwestern University, and an artist's diploma and D.M.A. in flute performance from the University of South Carolina. Tully is currently a principal flutist with the Long Bay Symphony in Myrtle Beach and a winner of the National Flute Association's Convention Performers Competition.

Powell has been a faculty member at CCU since 1988. He earned his BMA from the University of Oklahoma and his master's and doctoral degrees in music from Indiana University, where he studied under Michel Block. He plays for South Carolina Public Radio and has performed with South Carolina Symphony. He has served as president of the Coastal Concert Association, music director of the Festival of Music and Art at Pawleys Island, and founder of the Musicale de Geneve series. He is also member of the board of directors of the Long Bay Symphony.
