CCU to host philosophical discussion about moral reflection

April 14, 2015

David Killoren, professor in the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies, will discuss moral questions on Tuesday, April 21, at 4 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. This event is sponsored by the Jackson Family Center for Ethics & Values and is free and open to the public.

"Some moral questions have obvious answers, but some questions turn out to be more difficult," says Killoren. "Is this because we simply have not found the answers to these questions? Or is it because some moral questions are unresolvable? According to a widely held view, if people think carefully enough and long enough about the hard questions of morality, then they will finally arrive at a verdict about what to do. However, in this talk, I'll argue that many moral questions cannot ultimately be resolved, at least not in a fully satisfying way."

Killoren earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where his primary teaching and research interests were in ethics. The Philosopher's Corner is an open discussion on current events presented by the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values.

The Johnson Auditorium is in room 116 in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration, located at 119 Chanticleer Drive E. in Conway.
