CCU makes Princeton Review's green college list

April 21, 2015

Coastal Carolina University is one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in the U.S. and Canada, according to "The Princeton Review's Guide to 322 Green Colleges," just released April 16.

The Princeton Review chose the schools for this guide based on an assessment of more than 2,000 colleges. The company analyzed data from the survey about the schools' course offerings, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation to measure their commitment to the environment and to sustainability, and selected 353 schools that offer an enhanced student experience through academics and green campus initiatives.

The school profiles in the guide feature essential information for college applicants -- facts and stats on school demographics, admission, financial aid -- plus write-ups on the schools' specific sustainability initiatives. A "Green Facts" sidebar reports on a wide range of topics, from the school's use of renewable energy sources, recycling and conservation programs to the availability of environmental studies and career guidance for green jobs.

CCU received a Green Rating of 88 under Campus Life, which compares to the College of Charleston's rating of 86, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte of 84 and University of South Carolina's rating of 96.

"Sustainability is a collaborative effort that incorporates elements of academics, operations and engagement," said Jennifer Sellers, sustainability coordinator of the TD Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative. "Our Eco-Rep Leaders raise awareness of sustainable behavior among their peers through avenues of education and outreach, including FYE presentations, events and social media. The student Green Team helps to establish opportunities to recycle more across campus while encouraging others to reduce their waste consumption. We hope to continue to make positive, green impacts not only at Coastal, but within our community, too."
