CCU names director of continuing education

Coastal Carolina University has named Karen Edgington to the position of Director of Executive Development and Continuing Education.

Edgington will be responsible for the coordination of programs including noncredit courses through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for professionals and academic courses for skill enhancement and personal enrichment opportunities.

Prior to joining CCU, Edgington was the development officer at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where she was responsible for development for faculty and research in the schools of medicine and dental, the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, and the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies.

From 2008 until 2013, Edgington was the director of the O'Connell Center of Executive Development at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA), where she also taught courses in statistics, economics, and business communications. She was also responsible for fundraising for area economic impact and marketing studies.

Previous to joining the USCA faculty, Edgington was the director for the Center for Executive Development (CED) at Colorado Mesa University, initiating a program to offer noncredit programs to businesses and governmental entities throughout Colorado. She created the CED's Center for Professional Health Education, which assisted the medical community in necessary training for medical education units. She also taught at Georgia Regents University.

Edgington is a published author and has created supplemental materials for statistics texts. She has been a consultant and adviser to universities and nonprofits, assisting in increased revenue generation. Her awards include the Excellence in Teaching Award and the William H. Marsh Award for Service from USCA, Who's Who for Female Executives and the El Pomar Award for Excellence, which recognizes Colorado nonprofit organizations and individuals who serve their community with distinction and excellence.

Edgington earned a bachelor's degree in business economics and finance and an MBA.
