The Second City comedy troupe to perform at CCU

August 28, 2015

The Second City, the legendary sketch and improv comedy theatre from Chicago, will perform at Coastal Carolina University's Wheelwright Auditorium on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event range from $20 to $25, and seating is reserved and limited for this one-night only performance.

Founded in 1959, The Second City is recognized for its unique style of improv-based comedy and as the premier training ground for some of the world's most talented comedic performers. Second City alumni include Mike Myers, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Martin Short, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Amy Poehler, Steve Carell and many others.

The Second City's emphasis on intelligent satirical sketches and on-the-spot improvisations inspired the TV comedies "Saturday Night Live" and "Whose Line It Is Anyway" as well as the company's own SCTV. Named the country's "Comedy Empire" by The New York Times, The Second City company performed previously at CCU in 2001 and 2005. This performance is sponsored by CCU's Cultural Arts Committee.

Tickets for the event range from $20 to $25. Teens, CCU and HGTC alumni, OLLI members, groups and senior citizens receive a 20 percent discount. CCU and HGTC students may purchase tickets for $5. Seating is limited and reserved. To purchase tickets, visit ticketreturn.com, or visit or call the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-ARTS (2787). The Wheelwright Auditorium is located on the Conway campus at 108 Spadoni Park Circle.
