‘Spring Awakening’ to open at CCU Theatre

"Spring Awakening: A Musical," a Tony award-winning production, will be presented by Coastal Carolina University's Department of Theatre from Thursday, Sept. 17, to Saturday, Oct. 3, at the 79th Avenue Theatre in Myrtle Beach. Admission is $17, with some discounts available.

"Spring Awakening" is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater. The coming-of-age story explores the tumult of adolescence in a raw and honest depiction that fuses morality, sexuality and rock 'n' roll. The original show won eight Tony awards, including best musical and best choreography.

Parental discretion is advised as some content is inappropriate for children.

The performances are as follows:

* Thursday, Sept. 17, to Saturday, Sept. 19, 7:30 p.m.

* Wednesday, Sept. 23, to Friday, Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m.

* Saturday, Sept. 26, shows at 3 and 7:30 p.m.

* Wednesday, Sept. 30, to Friday, Oct. 2, 7:30 p.m.

* Saturday, Oct. 3, shows at 3 and 7:30 p.m.

The production is directed and choreographed by Becky Timms, and the music is directed by Steven Gross. The cast includes: Megan Sharp, Christina Daves, Ashlyn Inman, Tess Larchian, Emily Kakish, Grant Zativkovsky, Riley Phoenix, Corey Ryan, Ethan Babson, Elliot Smith, Dejuan Thompson, Sarah Parker, Daniel Pippert, Erin Paxton, Sophia Kider, Brian Bruno and Ben Southerland.

General admission is $17. Senior citizens, OLLI members, CCU alumni, teens and CCU/HGTC faculty and staff are $12. CCU/HGTC students can purchase tickets for $5.
