CCU sponsors public forum on Paris attacks
Five CCU professors will lead the discussion about the Nov. 13 attacks that killed at least 129 and wounded at least another 352 people at venues across Paris.
In this panel discussion, CCU faculty members will explain factors contributing to the attacks, reflect on what France's response means for the future and explain ethical issues in military engagement in an age of terrorism. The group will examine ISIS and discuss why Paris was targeted, as well as what this event means for the United States.
Discussion topics include: French colonialism and the treatment of Muslims in France; ISIS and its relationship to the Islamic world; different denominations of Islam in the Middle East, Asia and the West; the future of ISIS, its capabilities, recent growth and recruitment strategies; the relationship between the terrorist attacks on Paris, Ankara, Turkey, and Beirut, Lebanon; and ethical questions regarding military and terrorist tactics, civilian and military targets, mercenaries, and drone warfare.

* Joseph Fitsanakis, assistant professor of politics (intelligence and national security studies)
* Chris Gunn, assistant professor of history (modern Middle East)
* Jeffrey Halverson, assistant professor of religious studies (Islamic studies)
