Coastal music ensembles to give spring concert May 2

Coastal Carolina University's Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Saxophone Quartet will present a spring concert on Thursday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

The Symphonic Band, which features more than 30 Coastal students, will perform a variety of popular music. The group is directed by James Tully, director of bands at Coastal.

The six-member Jazz Band will perform several tunes ranging from jazz-style blues to Latin to swing music. The band is led by Bill Hamilton, associate professor of music at Coastal.

The Saxophone Quartet is a new student ensemble under the direction of Dan O'Reilly, music teaching associate at Coastal. The quartet will perform classical pieces as well as several jazz favorites.

The event concludes Coastal's 2001-2002 Cultural Arts Series.
