Comedian Gary Owen, one of the hosts for Black Entertainment Television's (BET) "Comic View," will perform at Coastal Carolina University Friday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Owen, who is white, was voted "Funniest Black Comedian in San Diego" and competed against 44 other contestants to win the hosting spot on BET's "Comic View."

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Owen enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school and was chosen for the prestigious Presidential Honor Guard. During his stint in the Navy he began developing his comedy act and went on to be named the "Funniest Serviceman in America."
