Burroughs & Chapin, one of the leading property development and management companies in the Southeast, has made a $500,000 donation to support scholarships for local students who attend Coastal Carolina University. The newly established Burroughs & Chapin Horry County Annual Scholarship Fund will benefit students who have graduated from a public or private high school within the county.

Fourteen $3,500 scholarships will be awarded each academic year to students who earn a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate financial need as determined by CCU's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. One of the scholarships, the J. Bratton Fennell Burroughs & Chapin Annual Scholarship, will be awarded to a local student who is an accounting major.

"Burroughs & Chapin has been a tremendous asset to the Grand Strand and a steadfast supporter of Coastal Carolina University for numerous years," said CCU President David A. DeCenzo. "The Burroughs & Chapin scholarships are a perfect example of the company's unwavering commitment to support the residents of this area. We are very thankful for this generous donation and the remarkable impact it will have on our local students."

Jim Apple, president and CEO of Burroughs & Chapin, said, "Burroughs & Chapin has a long history of supporting Coastal Carolina University. We recognize the tremendous positive impact a major university can have on a community, and CCU's growth over the past decade has been truly impressive. From winning a national championship in baseball to attracting talented minds to serving as a cultural hub for the entire area, CCU has enriched the quality of life, enhanced the image and been a key economic driver for the whole Myrtle Beach area. Burroughs & Chapin appreciates the impact that CCU has on the well-being of this area, and we will continue to do what we can to help CCU build on its success as a university."

They include hospitality, golf, master-planned development, tourism attractions, commercial leasing and shopping center development.
