Clinical psychologist and best-selling author David Stein, renowned for developing alternative, non-drug methods to treat hyperactive children, will give a free, public lecture Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in University Hall, Room 228 at Coastal Carolina University. The talk is sponsored by Coastal's Division of Continuing Studies.

Stein is the author of Ritalin Is Not the Answer and Ritalin is Not the Answer Action Guide. Besides conducting workshops and training seminars for parents and education groups to learn about practical alternatives to Ritalin, Stein is also a practicing clinical psychologist in Richmond, Va., and a professor of psychology at Longwood College.

In 1998, the American Psychological Association presented Stein with an award for the best non-drug treatment parent-training program.
