Coastal Carolina University offers Spanish course for hotel employees

January 30, 2003

Survival Spanish, an eight-day course teaching non-Spanish speaking hotel and motel employees key phrases to assist them with their jobs, will be offered at Coastal Carolina University's Higher Education Center in Myrtle Square Mall on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 18 through March 13 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Participants will learn functional language skills relating to Spanish commands, questions and phrases helping them to communicate more efficiently with Spanish-speaking employees. There are only 14 slots available in the class, so early registration is recommended. The cost of the course, which is sponsored by Coastal Carolina University's Division of Continuing Studies and the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association, is $175 per person.

The class instructor, Susana Russell, has more than 25 years of experience teaching Spanish and English as second languages. She has also served as an interpreter for the Family Court and the Department of Social Services in South Carolina.
