Coastal Carolina University opens Georgetown branch

January 30, 2003

Coastal Carolina University will hold an open house at its new Georgetown location Monday, Feb. 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. The new location is on Highway 701 in the Georgetown Plaza near Peebles department store. The event is free and open to the public.

The renovated facility has seven classrooms, a computer room, a computer lab and a meeting space that can accommodate approximately 40 people and may be used by the community. A variety of courses are being taught there including Spanish, business and education. Classes began Jan. 16.

The updated facility allowed Coastal Carolina to move classes out of Horry Georgetown Technical College's campus on Highway 17 just outside of Georgetown. The new Georgetown Higher Education Center in the Georgetown Plaza will provide more room and a more convenient location for South Strand students.

A new facility on Willbrook Blvd. in Pawleys Island will provide even more opportunities for Coastal students in the area. It's scheduled for completion in November and will open for the Spring 2004 semester.
