Three retirement experts highlight Carolinas conference

September 5, 2003

Three of the top experts in the active adult retirement industry will speak at an Oct. 9-10 business conference at Springmaid Beach Resort & Conference Center, co-sponsored by Coastal Carolina University and the Carolinas Active Retirement Association (CARA).

"Strategies and Trends in Active Adult Building and Marketing" is aimed at marketers of active adult communities, homes and properties, as well as builders, developers, service providers and "others who want to position their organization to better serve the 'mature' market as it continues to grow dramatically each year," according to Dan Owens of CARA.

Featured speakers Chuck Longino, Mike Sullivan and Robert Snyder will talk about different aspects of the fast-growing 50-plus marketplace. Longino, a Wake Forest University sociologist, is one of the country's foremost experts in retirement migration in America. Longino studies where 60-plus retirees are moving from and their destinations, as well as the amount of wealth they are transferring to different areas. He is the author of "Retirement Migration in America" and will release his analysis of migration trends based on the 2000 census at the conference.

Sullivan, president of Charlotte-based 50-plus Communications Consulting, travels the country speaking to groups about marketing strategies and trends based on a rapidly graying society. Sullivan's specialty is helping financial and insurance firms turn "Grey into Gold" in their business, by helping them better understand older adults. He was formerly vice president for corporate communications for First Union Corporation.

Until last month, Snyder headed up the Mature Market Group for J. Walter Thompson Worldwide in Dallas, Texas. He recently joined Retirement Living Services in Hartford, Conn. He is considered a foremost marketer and strategist in the older adult marketplace.

Anyone interested in doing more business with the fast-growing over-50 market will want to attend this conference. Enrollment is limited, so early registration is suggested. The fee is $179 if you register by Sept. 30. To register, call 843-349-2665. For more information, call Peter Balsamo of Coastal's Division of Continuing Studies at 843-349-2648.
