Coastal Carolina professor receives Chamber honor

Donald Millus, a senior professor of English and Journalism at Coastal Carolina University, was recognized by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce recently for his contributions in publicizing Grand Strand saltwater fishing.

Millus, of Conway, was cited for "providing programs to encourage the participation of young people." He is the founder of the Coastal Carolina Invitational, an intercollegiate fishing match and seminar held annually since 1974.

A plaque was presented at the annual Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo awards banquet on Dec. 5. Millus is a member of the South Carolina Outdoor Press Association and writes a weekly column, "Just Angling," for The Horry Independent. His most recent book is "Wading South," a collection of poems published by Atlantic Publishing of Tabor City, N.C. Millus has been writing about fishing since 1973. He is the author of "A Contemplative Fishing Guide to the Grand Strand" and "Fishing the Southeast Coast." He has written about fishing for Outdoor Life, Salt Water Sportsman and other publications.
